Vehicle payment phishing

FASTag KYC SMS Scam

The message says your FASTag will be blacklisted unless you update KYC or recharge through a link. The site looks official but collects your FASTag ID, vehicle number, card details and OTP.

if you got this

Treat it as a scam until you check. Don’t click, pay or share a code. Check your FASTag KYC only on fastag.ihmcl.com or in your issuing bank’s app, typed or opened yourself.

Check my message with KavalFree to start. Nothing to install.

what it looks like

Forwarded

NHAI Alert: Your FASTag KYC is pending and will be blacklisted today. Update now to avoid double toll charges: fastag-kyc-update.info

FASTag KYC and double-toll rules are real and have been in the news, so a KYC reminder sounds normal. The fake link borrows that truth.

red flags

  • A link that is not fastag.ihmcl.com or your issuing bank’s official site or app
  • A threat of blacklisting “today”
  • Asks for card details, UPI PIN or OTP to “verify” KYC
  • A QR code sent on WhatsApp to recharge

if it’s happening now

  1. Check your FASTag KYC only on fastag.ihmcl.com or in your issuing bank’s app, typed or opened yourself.
  2. Recharge only through your bank’s app or a trusted UPI app.
  3. For help, use the helpline in your issuer’s official app, or the national highway helpline 1033.
  4. If you entered card details, call your bank and block the card.

Don’t

  • Do not scan QR codes sent in messages to recharge FASTag.
  • Do not share your FASTag ID, vehicle number and OTP together on a link.

Save this evidence

  • SMS screenshot and sender
  • The full link
  • Any payment reference

Stop it happening again

  • Keep your FASTag issuer’s app installed and check alerts there, not in SMS links.

questions people ask

Where do I check FASTag KYC status for real?

On fastag.ihmcl.com for IHMCL-issued tags, or in the app or website of the bank that issued your FASTag. Type the address yourself.

Is the FASTag KYC requirement itself real?

Yes, FASTag KYC exists. The scam is the link in the message. Do the update only on the official portal or your bank’s app.
